Lye Yau Fatt was born in Kedah in 1950. He is a self-taught artist who had participated in several solo and numerous local and international art exhibitions since 1979. He received awards at Open Art Competition (Sculpture) and PNB Art Competition – Watercolour (Landscape).

Lye Yau Fatt likes to look for subject matter in ordinary objects, such as the small trees outside his house or the roots which cling on the old walls. According to him, "The beauty of art is even more beautiful than nature. The demand of art work is the 'essence' and not the 'weeds' which you can find anywhere".
