Born in Penang in 1938, Mo-Leong is a full-time artist and presently the chairman of the Art Gallery Committee,Penang as well as a member of the State Museum Board. He is also the president of the Penang Watercolour Society since 1985. He was educated at the Chung-Ling Secondary School, Penang and Provincial Taipei Normal College (Fine Arts: 1957-60). He has held numerous one-man exhibitions in Penang (1961), British Council, Kuala Lumpur (1965), Samat Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1966), France-Nell Gallery, Tokyo (1966), Miami Museum of Modern Art, Florida (1968), Adelaide (1974), Balinese Series at E & O Hotel, Penang (1979), and 'B.P' Series, Penang Museum and Art Gallery (1989). He has participated in group exhibitions all over the world including Group Exhibition, Taiwan (1958), Royal Institute Galleries, London (1959), Le Salon Societe des Artistes, Paris (1960), Cite International d'Art Exhibition, Paris (1967), Malaysian Art at the Sao Paolo Biennale, Brazil (1969), Traveling Exhibition of Malaysian Art to Australia & New Zealand (1969), Malaysian Art at 'Man & His World' Exhibition, Montreal (1970), Salon Internationale d'Art, Basle, Switzerland (1995), Contemporary Paintings of Malaysia, Pacific Asia Museum, Pasadena, California (1988), The First Exhibition of Federation of Asian Art Association, Taiwan Museum of Art (1988) and Titian 2 Exhibition, National Art Gallery, Bangkok (1989).
Besides winning several awards in local art competitions for his batik and watercolour paintings, he won the winners prize for sculpture competition, Gama Complex (1980), and third prize for sculpture competition for E.P.F. Building Mural, Kuala Lumpur (1984). He also executed public sculptures for the Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and Gama Complex, Penang. | | |
