He painted many old buildings and street scenes in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Penang. In his latest works he went into details and showed the elements and life within the old buildings. He focuses on the window frames, with subtle elements of plant in old pots, bird cages, oil lamps and sometimes even old towel which will evoke nostalgic emotions of the viewers.

He uses strong constrast of colours and different sunlight tones on his old buildings and by using oil he believes he has more control over the texture and the thickness of colour and able to give a more three-dimensional effect.

Cheng Thak has taken part in more than 15 group and solo exhibitions, and he had won several awards for his work over the past 17 years.
