The artist was born in Canton, China in 1918, moving to Singapore in 1933 before settling down in Kuala Lumpur. Like most artists then he had to handle many jobs before going full time into painting. Known as the ‘Cezanne of Melati Flats’, Fung Yow Chork did many fine impressionist pictures of earlier KL, painting outdoor landscapes and recording historical sites of the city. Later his enthusiasm led him to create landscapes of all over Malaysia, especially Malacca.
