Born 1939 in State of Kedah. A school teacher before Nanyang Academy of Fine Art, he graduated in 1961. Won First Prize in Oil in Malaysian Art Competition in 1965. Since his first one-man show at British Council in Kuala Lumpur1965, he has held 40 one-man show over in Penang, Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta, Bandung, Bali, Taipei, Adelaide, Melbourne, Honolulu, Houston, Washington, DC and New York. He also participated in open shows including those in the U.S., U. K., Ireland, Germany, Brazil, Australia, Japan, India, Thailand and China. After he formed Alpha Gallery in Singapore in 1970,Khoo Sui Hoe left for New York to study contemporary art under a grant provided by JDR 3rd Fund, in 1974. One his way back to Malaysia a year after, he traveled through Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal and Myanmar. He formed Utara Group in Penang in 1977 and migrated to U.S. in 1982. He is recognized by his close-up faces and landscapes with a surrealistic touch. His recent participations at the Asian Art in Las Vegas Museum won him awards of Certificate of Merits in 2002 and 2004.
